A defector identified as Park Sang-hak used 20 helium balloons to send Covid-19 supplies into North Korea from a city in the South on September 5, 2022. The shipment was sent weeks after the sister of the North’s supreme leader Kim Jong-un had warned of a “strong retaliatory response” to such packages that she claimed were to blame for a coronavirus outbreak in the reclusive state.
