Chuseok, as Korea's largest autumn holiday throughout the generations, has served as a time for a check-up on inter-Korean relations.
During the years of relatively warmer ties between Seoul and Pyeongyang, the two governments coordinated reunions of family members separated by the border since the 1950-53 Korean War.
However, such gestures won't be made during this year's holiday,... as relations have deteriorated since 2018 following a flurry of engagement between Seoul, Washington and Pyeongyang that ultimately failed.
North Korea has also recently rejected the Yoon Suk-yeol government's offer of economic aid in return for steps towards denuclearisation.
We take a look at where inter-Korean ties stand at this time for the divided nation.
For this we have Chad O'Carroll, Chief Executive Officer of Korea Risk Group who founded NK News/NK Pro, as major sources of North Korea-related news and analysis.
We also connect with Dr. Stephen Noerper, President of Asia Dialogue and Adjunct Research Scholar of Columbia University joining us online from Honolulu.

1. Chad: North Korea held a key parliamentary meeting on Wednesday (Sep. 7). What do you think the regime's key priorities are right now?

2. Chad: How have recent heavy rain and flooding affected North Korea over the past two months?

3. Stephen: Despite a severe outbreak of COVID-19, food shortages and heavy rainfall in North Korea, Pyongyang is continuing to reject offers of humanitarian assistance. Why do you think they are doing so aren't they just shooting themselves in the foot?

4. Chad: NK Pro's timeline tracks major events that took place on the Korean Peninsula. Some recent events include the Ulchi Freedom Shield joint military drills and President Yoon providing more details about his audacious initiative for Pyeongyang. Would you say tensions between the two Koreas have worsened over the past month?

5. Stephen: The Yoon government's 'audacious plan' for the North has been shot down by Kim Jong-un's younger sister Kim Yo-jong. As for the Biden administration, some are wondering whether strategic patience has made a return. What are your thoughts? What should be Seoul and Washington's strategy to engage the North?

6. Chad: What are your thoughts on the Yoon administration's "audacious plan" for North Korea? Why has North Korea flat-out rejected Yoon's "audacious initiative?"

7. Stephen: We're seeing North Korea inching close to Russia, and on Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Defence said Moscow has been looking to purchase North Korean rockets and artillery shells. Where do Pyeongyang-Moscow ties stand, currently, and would their increasing partnership thwart efforts to restore talks on denuclearisation?

8. Chad: It's hard to tell what exactly the Biden administration's strategy for North Korea is. How do you think Seoul and Washington's approach to North Korea should change in order to reduce tension and restart engagement?

9. Stephen: Usually, around this time of year, we talk about reuniting separated families from the South and North. However, people-to-people exchanges depend heavily on the political situation. What does the current level of tension on the Peninsula mean for separated families, and what kind of efforts need to be made to build peaceful cooperation with the North?
